NVIDIA SHIELD TV · setup guide
How to set up IPTV on NVIDIA SHIELD TV and SHIELD TV Pro
The SHIELD is the device IPTV enthusiasts reach for: fast, roomy, wired ethernet built in and an excellent upscaler for HD channels on a 4K TV. Setup is quick because it runs Android TV with the full Play Store. Grab your Wave IPTV email and let's go.

Before you start
- Your Wave IPTV login: username, password and server URL.
- If you can, connect the SHIELD to your router with an ethernet cable. It is the single best upgrade for a smooth stream.
- Update the SHIELD: Settings → Device Preferences → About → System upgrade.
Open the Google Play Store
From the home screen, open Apps and then Google Play Store, or press the microphone button and say "open Play Store".
Install TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro
Search for TiviMate (our pick for the SHIELD; Premium features are a subscription paid to its developer) or IPTV Smarters Pro (free). Install the one you want. Power users sometimes add Kodi with the PVR IPTV Simple Client, but it takes longer to set up and is not necessary.
Sign in with your Xtream Codes details
In TiviMate choose Add playlist → Xtream Codes; in Smarters choose Login with Xtream Codes API. Enter the server URL, username and password exactly as they appear in our email, then confirm.
Tune the picture and start watching
Once channels load, open Settings → Device Preferences → Display & Sound → AI upscaling and set it to AI-Enhanced on the SHIELD TV Pro or the 2019 tube. HD channels look noticeably sharper on a 4K screen. Then pick a channel and enjoy.
Why the SHIELD is worth it for IPTV
Three reasons. The ethernet port takes Wi-Fi out of the equation, which fixes most buffering before it starts. The AI upscaler makes 720p and 1080p channels look closer to 4K. And the processor and storage handle a channel list of tens of thousands of entries without slowing down, which cheaper sticks sometimes struggle with. If you already own one, you have the best IPTV device on our list.
Frame rate matching for sport
In TiviMate you can turn on AFR (auto frame rate) under playback settings. It switches the TV to the channel's native frame rate so fast motion in hockey and soccer looks smoother. Turn it off if your TV blanks for a second every time you change channel.
If something goes wrong on NVIDIA SHIELD TV
These cover the problems people actually run into on this device. If yours is not here, send us the exact wording of the error and a photo of the screen.
The SHIELD restarts or freezes after updating
Unplug it for a minute, then clear the player app's cache. If problems continue, check for another system update; NVIDIA still issues fixes for these devices.
Audio drops out with my receiver
In Display & Sound → Advanced sound settings, try setting surround sound to Auto and disabling Dolby Atmos passthrough if your receiver does not support it.
Should I use Wi-Fi or ethernet?
Ethernet, every time, if the router is reachable. If it is not, a pair of powerline adapters is a cheap middle ground.
Can I record shows?
TiviMate Premium can record to the SHIELD's storage or a USB drive. Catch-up on supported channels is often easier: it lets you go back in the guide without recording anything.
Guides for other devices
One IPTV subscription works on all of them. Only the app changes.
